Directions Questionnaires: How the Court Decides What Happens to Your Case

Directions Questionnaire for a court case with case management documents, witness and expert notes, hearing dates and civil procedure books.

A Directions Questionnaire may look administrative, but the information provided can influence how the Court manages the case. It can affect allocation, hearing arrangements, expert evidence and the future timetable.

Read every question carefully.

Do not complete the form mechanically. Consider what your case genuinely requires and make sure the answers are consistent with the issues in dispute.

Witnesses and experts.

The Court may ask how many witnesses you intend to rely upon and whether expert evidence is required. The Court controls expert evidence and permission may be necessary.

Availability and hearing needs.

If asked for dates when you or important witnesses cannot attend, provide accurate information. Once a hearing date is fixed, changing it may be difficult.

Keep a final copy.

Retain the complete questionnaire together with evidence of filing and service where applicable.
